Why have I revamped the site?

Because the first time round this was as much about keeping my hand in as it was about actually having a desire to publish the things I used to put up here. I wanted to get familiar with some modern web design tools, and to get a greater insight into what the web had become since I stopped touching code in anger. My first contact with the web was back in 1994 via Mosaic, and at the time it was all about content (textual) and not about design. In recent years, the content has taken a back seat, and HTML (and DHTML) have moved to accommodating the kind of design niceties previously known only in desktop publishing.

Which is not to say that I expect to win any design awards, but I have grasped some of the issues around DHTML and CSS on the first pass at this. Revision 2 should be much more consistent in its structure and make extensive use of CSS and layers to keep the look clean and allow me to make design changes easily. That's mostly what it's about - simplicity and ease of publishing, so the site allows me to quickly update the world (and particularly those that know us) on what we're doing, have been doing, are interested in, are arguing about etc. This isn't intended to be of interest to the wider public, but I'd hope it might be in a microcosmical typical existence of a South London family sort of way. If it isn't, well, move on. I'm surprised you made it this far.
